Our Sessions

What can you expect?

Our transformative sauna experiences focus on health, happiness and wellbeing. Our sessions enable you to enjoy the rejuvenating benefits of an authentic wood-fired sauna while connecting with nature.

Our regular sauna sessions take place at the beautiful Queensford Lake in Wallingford, Oxfordshire. There, our guests can enjoy a classic, communal or bespoke session. Groups of up to ten (or twelve close friends who don’t mind being cosy) share the authentic, calming wood-fired sauna before cooling off with a refreshing cold plunge in the lake. The process is designed to leave your mind and body feeling rested and renewed.

All of our sessions are led by our Gusmeister, Stephen who is there to guide you through the process and help you get the most out of the session. Your sauna experience with Saunagus will immerse you in a happy state of calm, leaving you refreshed and revitalised.

Saunagus Classic Ritual

The saunagus classic ritual involves 3 curated sauna sessions with post-sauna water dips and chill out time. Expect music, essential oils, salt scrubs and more. There may even be phyto-thermal massage (leaf whisking). We are certain that it will leave you rejuvenated, inspired and feeling great in both your body and your mind.

The saunagus classic ritual takes approximately 1 hour but you are welcome to hang out at the sauna afterwards, drink tea and enjoy the day

Communal Sauna

Join other sauna enthusiasts for a simple sauna session followed by a dip in the lake. We offer different times each Sunday and pre-booking is essential. A great and cost effective way to enjoy the sauna with others,

Bespoke sessions

If you are booking for a group or special event, we can create a bespoke session for you. The sauna capacity is currently 10-12 persons max in the sauna but groups can rotate between sessions to accommodate more.

Want a singing sauna? we can do it. A Jazz sauna? no problem. Meditation sauna? of course. Special music, herbs or oils - just let us know.
We are happy to work in partnership with trusted providers to provide collaborations (Sauna and Yoga/ Sauna and Gong Baths etc.)

We have flexibility with location and days if you are booking a bespoke session. We can even run them in your garden or at your festival. Use the contact form to let us know your needs.

FAQs

  • We run regular sessions on Sundays at Queenford Lakes (see contact us). However, we are completely mobile so we can come to your location or event with enough prior notice. Access to clean water makes everything easier.

  • A sense of adventure, a towel, water bottle and something for your feet (flip-flops/sandals etc.). We’ll also ask you to wear a swimsuit or trunks. We know for some sauna purists, this isn’t an ideal way to sauna but we are in a public area and we are trying to make our sauna sessions as accessible for as many people as possible.

  • For as long as you want. Swimming warm-up sessions can be very short (5-10 mins) but we really recommend that you try the full hour of saunagus. Sauna is one of those things that gets better the more you do. The cycle of rinsing and cooling before returning to the sauna continually cleanses, this is why we prefer to do guided sessions as we believe you will get the most out of it.

  • Again, this is why we like to do guided sessions. A good saunameister will control the heat and meet the needs of the group. Heat can be really effective in relaxing muscles but our saunas are meant to be relaxing and enjoyable. Sauna is not an endurance sport… it’s a wellness activity. For cold water swimmers we keep the temperature  very moderate but we can raise if required. Please talk to us, if its too hot we can ventilate and we can also raise the temperature when required.

  • We want to promote safe, authentic and enjoyable sauna. Please help us to do this by listening to instructions and following the guidance of the Gusmeister at all times.

Get in touch in advance to discuss any medical conditions or concerns you may have. There are only a few conditions where it is unsafe to sauna. We want our sauna to be as inclusive as possible, so we are happy to work with you to make it a comfortable experience.
